President Prabowo Subianto strongly condemned corrupt practices in Indonesia’s rice trade during the 27th anniversary of the National Awakening Party (PKB). He revealed that these unethical practices, where rice is repackaged and sold at inflated prices, cost the country up to Rp100 trillion annually. The President expressed his concerns about the misuse of public subsidies for rice production, stating that despite the support provided by the government, some companies manipulate the system for personal gain. Prabowo disclosed that 212 rice milling companies have been identified for such activities and emphasized the need for them to return their ill-gotten profits. He declared these actions as criminal and a violation of the constitution, stressing the importance of using public funds for essential services. President Prabowo has directed the National Police Chief and the Attorney General to take immediate steps to investigate and prosecute those involved in the fraudulent practices. He emphasized that his actions are guided by the constitutional mandate to protect vital sectors of the state, such as rice production, from exploitation.
