British Airways A350-1000 aircraft experienced a wheel detachment incident shortly after taking off from Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) in Las Vegas, United States, en route to London Heathrow Airport (LHR), London, England. The incident was captured on camera as the aircraft departed from the runway. Flight BA274 departed from gate E1 to runway 26R for takeoff at 9:05 PM local time. Approximately 40 seconds after takeoff, sparks were observed coming out of the right main landing gear.

According to Flightradar reports, the right rear wheel of the right main landing gear detached from the aircraft and fell off while the plane was retracting the landing gear after takeoff. Fortunately, no injuries were reported on the ground. Despite the incident, the flight continued to London following an initial assessment, with the pilot maintaining a cruising altitude of around 39,000 feet across the Atlantic Ocean as per the planned route. The aircraft, carrying hundreds of passengers, safely landed at Heathrow Airport after 9 hours and 17 minutes in the air.

The Airbus A350-1000 is equipped with six main landing wheels arranged in three pairs. The missing wheel was identified as the outer wheel of the right main landing gear. Operational factors such as aircraft performance, fuel condition, and redundancy in the landing gear system likely influenced the decision-making process, according to Aviatona2Z.
