Smart’s newest sedan, the Smart #6, has been unveiled through the official website of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). The sedan weighs 4,627 lbs (2,099 kg) in its heaviest configuration, as revealed by the latest photos. Despite its AI-like design, the Smart #6 is a real car, not a computer-generated image, and measures an impressive length of 193.1 inches (4906 millimeters), comparable to the BMW 7 Series E32. The sedan boasts a hybrid powertrain and a sizable body with a wheelbase of 115.1 inches (2,926 mm).
The Smart sedan surpasses its predecessor, the crossover Smart #5, which debuted in mid-2024 with a plug-in hybrid setup. Sporting a width of 75.6 inches (1,922 mm) and a height of 59.3 inches (1,508 mm), the Smart #6 features 20-inch wheels with intricate designs. The active rear spoiler, equipped with a LiDAR sensor on the roof, signals the brand’s evolution since the Mercedes-Geely joint venture in 2019. Despite lacking precise weight specifications, the Smart #6 is expected to follow the footsteps of the 5,401-pound (2,450-kilogram) SUV #5 EV. In terms of mileage, the Smart #6 can cover 1,125 miles (1,810 kilometers) on a full tank of gas and battery charge.
This plug-in hybrid model boasts an impressive range of 177 miles (285 kilometers) on a single charge, consuming only 3.9 liters/100 km (60 miles per gallon) with a combined output of 429 horsepower. While the interior remains unseen, it is likely to feature a screen-filled dashboard, catering to the Chinese market’s preference for large displays over conventional controls. The trend of replacing traditional switchgear with large screens to compete with Chinese brands is evident among established automakers. Set to launch in China next year as a local product, the Smart #6 reflects the brand’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.
