The Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Program has been proven to significantly improve children’s concentration levels, as shown by short-term memory assessments. This enhancement is expected to help in maintaining students’ learning motivation. Research carried out in Aceh indicates that students who receive Free Nutritious Meals exhibit increased concentration levels, leading to enhanced educational outcomes and reinforcing children’s motivation for further learning, as stated by Ikeu Tanziha, a member of the Expert Council of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). Another study by the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) showed similar findings, where the MBG program enhanced learning focus and cognitive performance among students in regions like Bogor and Papua, particularly for those who skipped breakfast. An investigation at State Vocational School 6 (SMK Negeri 6) in Medan revealed that MBG significantly improved attendance motivation and concentration in class. The ability to concentrate is closely linked to attention and the brain’s cognitive function, playing a vital role in a child’s brain development during their formative years, according to Ikeu. Various factors such as learning motivation, nutritional intake, psychological well-being, and physiological conditions like sleep quality, noise, lighting, temperature, and learning environment design can impact a child’s ability to concentrate. Ikeu emphasized the importance of key nutrients such as protein, iron, and omega-3 fatty acids for brain development and cognitive function, particularly memory. The MBG Program aims not only to meet children’s nutritional requirements for physical growth but also to enhance their cognitive potential and intelligence. Despite challenges like unhealthy eating habits among children and limited access to nutritious foods in certain areas, Ikeu emphasized the need to collectively support the successful implementation of the Free Nutritious Meals Program. The initiative is believed to bring lasting benefits for future generations and society as a whole.
