Magelang – Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto accompanied President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to inaugurate the main building of the Military Academy (Akmil) in Magelang Regency, Central Java, on Monday (29/1).
Prabowo arrived at the location at 9:25 AM and was welcomed by the Akmil Governor Major General R. Sidharta Wisnu Graha to oversee the preparations and provide directions before the main event.
Then, at exactly 11:00 am, Jokowi arrived at Akmil after previously visiting the Blabak Market, Magelang Regency, to monitor the prices of nine basic necessities (sembako). Jokowi, who appeared wearing black batik with gold motifs, was greeted by Prabowo who wore a long-sleeved white shirt and a black peci.
Also seen were TNI Commander Agus Subiyanto, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Army Chief of Staff General Maruli Simanjuntak, Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Muhammad Ali, and Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal Fadjar Prasetyo who welcomed Jokowi’s arrival at Akmil.
Then, Prabowo together with Jokowi, the commander, the police chief, and the chiefs of staff of the armed forces and retired generals went straight into the main building to tour the building before the inauguration began.
After completing the building tour, Jokowi delivered a speech in front of the Akmil cadets. He said that the construction of the main building would support the facilities for the cadets’ learning activities to be even better.
“The construction of this 8,068 square meter main building will give the cadets a boost to study even better, because the educational facilities at Akmil will be more complete, advanced, and modern,” said Jokowi.
“This main building can be used as a center for academic activities and military events,” he added.
Meanwhile, Prabowo stated that the main building is part of efforts to realize the grand vision of building and developing educational facilities at military institutions.
“It is expected to have a central role in shaping the character, mental and intellectual of future TNI leaders and national leaders,” said Prabowo.
He also hoped that the construction of this new infrastructure could improve the quality and education of the cadets. “And it can increase the competitiveness of young soldiers on the international stage,” Prabowo continued.
The main building of Akmil Magelang was built on an area of 8,306 square meters, with the first floor covering 3,328 square meters, the second floor covering 2,617 square meters, and the third floor covering 2,617 square meters. In addition, there was also a renovation to improve the dining room for 1,200 cadets. (SENOPATI)
